Gabriel Cortez

Hello, I am Gabriel, a student in the MLIS program at Queens College.

I am studying to become a Children’s Librarian. I am currently working at Queens Library at Broadway as their Early Learning Specialist. I conduct bilingual English and Spanish storytimes and assist the Children’s Librarians in their programs. Before working at Broadway, I worked at Queens Library’s Children’s Library Discovery Center as a Discovery Team member where I coordinated, developed, and facilitated STEM programming for in-house class visits and other Queens Library branches.

Prior to working in libraries, I worked as an educator at the Museum of the City of New York. For several years I worked facilitating Family Programs and then expanded to teaching classes that visited the Museum.

When I’m not studying or working, I spend time at home with my partner and 5 cats. I love playing video games, watching many many, way too many shows on Netflix and Hulu, and reading children’s books. I’ve also been knitting for a number of years and have completed projects like hats, gloves, and scarves!

My Favorite Books

  • Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling
  • Percy Jackson and the Olympians series by Rick Riordan
